Is Georgia football on commitment watch?
Georgia football’s recruiting for 2020 has already been successful this offseason. Now with the season rapidly approaching, the Dawgs have a few players on commitment watch, here are three that could pull the trigger sooner than later.
Right now, Georgia football has 16 members in its 2020 recruiting class.
According to 247Sports Composite team rankings, the Dawgs rank as the No. 5 overall and the No. 3 SEC team.
The latest pickups for the Dawgs were 5-star running back Kendall Milton on July 29 and Chad Lindberg, a 4-star offensive tackle on July 28.
Georgia will likely take 23-25 members in this group and the way the buzz is right now, it’s going to be one of the best, if not the best recruiting class ever.
We all thought that Georgia did the unthinkable when it signed seven 5-stars in the 2018 class. Well, head coach Kirby Smart and his staff are saying, ‘ hey, yall watch this.’ and going to blow all of Dawg Nation’s mind with the 2020 class.
I wrote an article on how many 5-stars I thought could sign, and it’s becoming more and more real the closer we get to football season.
Georgia already has three 5-stars in this class, but I suspect it’ll be eight more to sign, and yes, I’m serious. I don’t know that any of the remaining spots are available because they either have a silent commit there or it’s held for someone high on the list.
There will be some casualties within the current class to make room, but it’ll be worth it in the end because the Dawgs will have fulfilled all of their needs and then some.
However, who will be the next to commit? Here are three guys that I think will be a part of this class and that I think could commit.
Sedrick Van Pran:
Sedrick Van Pran has been a guy I’ve expected to commit for a while. Even when Lindberg made his decision, I still think that Georgia ends up landing Van Pran.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Van Pran ranks as the No. 98 overall, the No. 3 C, and the No. 3 Louisiana prospect.
I think he has been a silent commitment for the Dawgs for a while and I think he could commit any time now.
Van Pran would make an excellent addition for Georgia’s interiors offensive line, and he’s a humble kid that loves the game of football.
I’m incredibly confident that he will be in this class when it is all said and done.
Zach Evans:
Yes, I’m putting Zach Evans on commitment watch, and I believe it’s going to be Georgia at the end of it all.
According to 247Sports, he ranks as the No. 6 overall, No. 1 RB, No.1 Texas prospect and No. 34 All-Time recruit.
With the recent splurge of crystal balls coming in for the Dawgs on 247Sports, his decision could happen a lot sooner than we were expecting. If he does commit early, I don’t expect the heat to come off him.
Texas A&M, LSU, and Alabama will all fight for his attention even if he commits to the Dawgs. I think that he is ready to make a decision and enjoy his senior season. However, I’m not dumb in the sense that he will take visits even if he commits to a team. It’s not over until he signs the dotted line, but what the Dawgs are selling seems to be what he wants.
The best way to sell the program to a 5-star running back is how they did it with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. It seems like Dell McGee is doing just that with Milton and Evans. Boy, would that be nice to see another duo like that in Athens?
I’m bold in my prediction saying that he could commit sooner than later, but I firmly believe he could decide on the next couple of weeks, and if he does, I think it’ll be the Dawgs.
Arian Smith
The Dawgs already has three wideouts in the 2020 class with Marcus Rosemy, Justin Robinson, and Corey Wren; I think there could be one more.
Arian Smith is a 4-star wideout from Lakeland, Florida, and is one of the fastest guys I’ve seen. According to 247Sports, he ranks as the No. 84 overall, the No. 17 receiver, and the No. 16 prospect in Flordia.
Smith is similar to Wren with speed, but I like his size a bit more than Wren’s. He is also good friends with Georgia track and field player Matthew Downing.
There was some heat coming from Smith during the open period in July, and many thought he would commit then, well he didn’t.
I don’t think he’s lost any interest from Georgia; I think that the staff’s told him to wait. As much as I like Wren, I believe Georgia could replace Wren with Smith. However, that’s if the Dawgs need to make some room. There’s a chance that Wren stays in this class, but I’m not that confident in it right now.
Georgia has some serious moves to make in the next four months, and it’s fixing to get interesting. That said, I think that Smith could be one of the next guys to pull the trigger and become a Dawg.
The Dawgs have a lot of noise surrounding them and the 2020 recruiting class. I mentioned before that Georgia could land 10 5-stars, but for that to happen, the Dawgs must keep winning. December seems far away, but it will be here before you know it and the coaches are working overtime to recruit the right kids and them to Georgia.
There will be some casualties, meaning current members may de-commit, but Dawg fans need to trust Smart and what his staff’s doing. They’re trying to get the best fits for what they’re doing in Athens, and sometimes that means replacing someone with a better player.
