Georgia football got good news as 5-star tight end Darnell Washington put the Dawgs in his final three schools.

One of Georgia football’s biggest priorities in the 2020 recruiting class is landing two talented tight ends. Well, the Dawgs got good news from one of their top tight end prospects as 5-star Darnell Washington put the Dawgs in his final three schools.

Early Monday morning, he released his top three schools which are Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee.

Georgia’s tight end coach Todd Hartley has his eyes set on two big-time tight ends, and one of those is Washington.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Washington ranks as the No. 12 overall, the No. 1 athlete, and the No. 1 player in Nevada.

The shock of the three players has to be Tennessee. I thought it would be Miami, Alabama, and Georgia, but the Vols made the cut.

Washington has visited campus multiple times, and I expect him to be back in Athens a few times this football season. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him make Georgia vs. Notre Dame and Georgia vs. Tenessee game.

Georgia could very well end up with two five-stars at this position with Washington being one of the two. The Dawgs have built a good relationship with him so far, and I’m sure he knows that he’s wanted in Athens.

I consider being in Washington’s top three as a win for this highly sought after prospect. The game is far from over, and even if he commits before National Signing Day, it’ll be a battle till the end, and one Georgia won’t give up easily.

If Hartley was to land Washington and Arik Gilbert than he would be doing one heck of a job already and a recruiter the Dawgs want to keep around.

I like Georgia’s chances over Miami because Hartley came from Miami, and so he knows how they’ll sell that program and what to do to make Georgia’s selling points better.

However, I do believe that the Dawgs will have to throw the ball more and impliment the tight ends into the game plan. I think James Coley is already doing that.

If Washington made a choice today, I believe he would choose the Dawgs. It would be great for him, which would include early playing time. Georgia’s depth at tight end is slim with Isaac Nauta and Luke Ford leaving. I have to assume Washington’s thinking about that and considering it highly.
