Each week, Dawn of the Dawg will preview Georgia Football’s upcoming game and provide a score prediction. How will the Dawgs fare this weekend against Vanderbilt in Nashville?

Georgia Football is finally back. After a sour ending to 2018, Kirby Smart’s team is finally ready to take the field once again on a quest to return to the College Football Playoff.

The Dawgs first game in 2019 will be on the road against Vanderbilt.

While the Dawgs are heavily favored to win this game, the team will have to be laser-focused now that SEC play begins in Week 1 rather than later in the season.

Quarterback Jake Fromm returns once again to lead a Georgia offense that is expected to put up huge numbers this season.

More from Dawn of the Dawg

Fromm will be protected by a formidable offensive line anchored by left tackle Andrew Thomas and will also have a potent rushing attack behind him led by D’Andre Swift.

Georgia lost several wide receivers from last year’s team to the NFL so it will be interesting to see which receivers step up against Vandy to fill that void.

The Dawgs do return plenty of experience on defense with notable players like safety J.R. Reed and linebacker Monty Rice. The defensive unit will also be filled with plenty of younger, talented players throughout as the Dawgs are blessed with extreme depth on the defensive side of the ball this season.

The special teams unit will be anchored by fan-favorite Rodrigo “Hot Rod” Blankenship, one of the nation’s best kickers.

Vanderbilt has the unfortunate honor of being Georgia’s first opponent in 2019.

When looking at Vanderbilt’s roster, Georgia is simply better in every single facet of the game. There is no reason this game should not be well in hand for the Dawgs by halftime.

Another area of advantage the Dawgs will surely have is a Georgia fan base that always seems to travel well when the Dawgs are on the road.

Many are calling for Georgia fans to show up at Vanderbilt’s stadium that in such large numbers that some might think this is actually a home game for the Dawgs.

Based on most projections, Georgia fans seem ready to answer the call and could make up as much as 70 percent of the crowd in Vanderbilt’s stadium on Saturday night.

As far as predictions go in this game, expect all of them to have Georgia coming out on top. The Dawgs are favored by three touchdowns in this game for a reason. I expect them to win by more than that.

Prediction: Georgia 41, Vanderbilt 13

Georgia and Vanderbilt kick off on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. (ET) on SEC Network.
