2003 – Greg Blue versus Auburn

If you are under the age of 25, you may not remember much about Greg Blue. Blue was a safety under Mark Richt from 2002-2005.

He was a 2-time SEC Champion and an All-American selection during his time at Georgia.

He was most recognized for his ability to drop devastating hits on opponents. Blue played during a time when targeting and defenseless receivers were not in the lexicon of college football yet.

It was the Wild West back in those days!

Blue would finish his career at Georgia with 260 career tackles, and I would bet that almost all of the opponents remembered him by the end of the game.

One player that will never forget Greg Blue is Auburn wide receiver, Courtney Taylor.

In 2003, with Georgia leading Auburn 19-0 in the 3rd quarter, Jason Campbell tried to hit Taylor on a crosser, but he bobbled the pass, and Blue completely obliterated him as he was trying to corral the pass.

Georgia won that game against Auburn 26-7, but that hit from Greg Blue would follow him around for the rest of his college career in Athens.

He was one of the most devastating hitters ever!
