Sahvir Wheeler

Besides Anthony Edwards, was there a more fun player to watch this past season than Sahvir Wheeler? The way he bounces the ball off the most random parts of the backboard and still manages to score is a spectacle to watch. And how he manages to pull those layups off with such frequency is a mystery.

A chunk of his nine points per game came from these dazzling drives to the hoop. Plus, Wheeler is billed at 5-10, he’s probably shorter than that. He’s making these shots over players often a head taller than him.

Wheeler is more than just a layup artist, he’s an excellent distributor, dishing out 4.5 assists per game. He’s such a good pass dispenser that he broke the Georgia basketball freshman record for assists in a season with 139. That total has him top 10 in school history regardless of class.

Yes, he’s mistake-prone. He loses the handle of the ball far too often inside the arc. But he was a freshman, playing SEC basketball for the first time. Wheeler has endured a season to experience big-time college basketball speed. He’ll polish is game in the offseason and come out ready to shine for the Bulldogs in 2020-21.
