Sanford Stadium

Every good dog needs a good doghouse, and UGA has the best. Sanford Stadium has a classic horseshoe design. It was built in 1928 and has been renovated and expanded multiple times, most recently in 2018 when the new locker room and west endzone were redone. When it first opened in 1928 it only had seating for 30,000 fans. The stadium now seats 93,246.

Back in the 70s you could even watch a game from the railroad tracks behind the east end zone completely free of charge. That all came to an end in 1981 when the east end zone was enclosed with new seating and the view from the tracks became blocked.

Georgia dedicated the field at Sanford Stadium to former coach Vince Dooley in 2019, renaming it Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium. The school also added new red lights last year. The lights make Sanford one of if not the best environment for a college football game. Fans and recruits alike were very impressed by the revealing during the Notre Dame game.

I have only had the privilege to visit Sanford Stadium once in my life, but it will not be the last.
