Larry Munson

To me, Larry Munson will always be the voice of UGA football. Growing up as the only Georgia fan, heck the only football fan in my family, I didn’t get to watch many games. I was usually glued to the radio on Saturday afternoons. For years I cheered on the Bulldogs with just Mr. Munson’s voice describing what was going on.

One specific game I remember listening to was the 2003 Sugar Bowl against Florida State. I would have rather watched it on TV, but getting to hear him call the game was the next best thing.

There are a lot of calls that Georgia fans remember Mr. Munson for. However, my favorite isn’t the “Hobnail Boot,” “Run Lyndsay,” or “My God A Freshman.” My favorite Munson call came during the 1997 season in a last-minute victory over Georgia Tech. I will never ever forget Munson’s call that day.

"“Our hearts, they were torn out and bleeding, we picked it up and we stuck it back inside. I can’t believe this. We won 27-24, and at the end, we had no business winning this game.”"

Beating Georgia Tech is always a great feeling, beating them on a last-second play with Larry Munson calling it is another feeling altogether. Rest In Peace to a Damn Good Dawg, Saturdays are not the same without you.
