Georgia’s first National Championship under Kirby Smart was special. Sure the title the following year was amazing, but the 2021 championship is by far the one that fans adore the most.
This team has already gone down as one of the greatest in the history of college football. That opinion could be argued by a lot of people outside of Athens though, but during the 2026 NFL Draft they became the National Championship winning team with the most draft picks on it of all time.

Georgia’s 2021 National Championship winning team made history again
2021 was a long time ago, but the final wave of players on that team are now entering the NFL. Only two players from that squad were drafted this year, but that was enough for this team to become the National Championship winning team with the most draft picks of all time.
Former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck was taken in the third round which was followed up by offensive lineman Micah Morris in the sixth round which gave Georgia 45 drafted players on that championship team. These two picks allowed Georgia to surpass the 2017 Alabama team who held this crown for the last few years.
This Georgia team is beloved for so many other reasons. They ended Georgia’s 40-year championship drought by beating Alabama in the championship game which marked Kirby Smart’s first victory over the Tide in his career. They also set the single draft record just a couple months later by having a whopping 15 players drafted at the 2022 NFL Draft which is a record that still stands today.
This group also has been dominating the NFL ever since winning this title which has been fun for fans to watch as well.
But this final record is one that could withstand the test of time. The Transfer Portal has caused the talent in college football to spread out more than in year’s past, so championship winning teams will have a lot more difficulty stacking talent like Georgia’s 2021 squad did.
But regardless of if they hold onto this title forever or not, this group was special and no one can deny it. Some may argue there were better teams, but Georgia’s 2021 team has a great argument for being the best team in the history of college football.
