ESPN’s College GameDay will call Myers Quad home for the second time in three weeks ahead of Georgia football’s game with Kentucky this weekend, and the guest picker is someone not all Dawgs fans may realize bleeds red and black.
For the second consecutive week, College GameDay selected a guest picker with a wealth of on-camera experience, tapping comedian, actor and game show host Jeff Foxworthy for the prognosticating duties.
Although Foxworthy didn’t make our short list of hopefuls, he’s a sports fanatic, lifelong Georgia resident, and he’s passionate about Georgia football.
For the Red River Shootout in Dallas, ESPN went with Mavericks owner and one of the sharks on Shark Tank, Mark Cuban. His on-camera experience was evident and he came off comfortable and polished during the show’s closing segment inside of the storied Cotton Bowl.
They hope to duplicate that energy on set Saturday with the selection of Foxworthy, a noted entertainer who rose to prominence on his patented “You might be a redneck if . . .” comedic routine.
Foxworthy hails from Atlanta and although he attended Georgia Tech for his undergraduate studies, he left school before graduating and his allegiances are with the Bulldogs, not the bugs.
Prior to the season, Foxworthy took a tour of Georgia’s brand spanking new football facilities decked out in Georgia gear, and in the leadup to the show tomorrow, he spent time with Georgia’s equipment staff getting a behind-the-scenes tour.
Although the reviews on his performance were less than stellar, Game 1 guest picker Kane Brown sits atop the standings, going 9-3 prior to Georgia football’s season-opening win in the Duke’s Mayo Kickoff Classic over Clemson.
PGA Tour golfer, Ryder Cup Champion and DGD Harris English performed admirably during his turn as the guest picker a couple of weeks back. Not only did he take the Dawgs, but he was also the lone person on the panel to pick Kentucky to upset Florida.
Regardless of how well he picks, the selection of Foxworthy ensures that there will be plenty of laughter and good times during College GameDay’s closing segment.
