Georgia football has shown the world that with hard work comes success regardless of whether adversity smacks them in the face each week.

From injuries, arrests, and having the flu last week, this team does not care what gets thrown their way — they will power through it.

The Dawgs aren’t selfish, and these players are about the team instead of themselves. That decision to play as a whole and fight for each other is why Georgia is the No.1 undisputed team in the country.

There are very few teams that have these traits. Sure every team has guys who rally together and play, but Georgia’s entire team is like that. No one cares who gets the ball as long as it results in a successful play. Heck, they pat their teammate on the head and move to the next even if it doesn’t work out because they’ve decided to play as one.

One of the reasons this team is so close and decided to play this way is this “senior class.”  There are quotes because COVID-19 made that term a bit fluid. Who knows what defines a senior anymore, but the people who chose to give it one more year over gambling with the NFL Draft are the ones who lead this group.

However, the guys like James Cook, Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt, Stetson Bennett — the guys who decided to come back for another season and try to accomplish something extraordinary are the ones leading by example.

Head coach Kirby Smart described this senior group in his Monday press conference as resilient.

"“They’ve been through a lot. They’ve had some ups and downs. High-quality leaders,” Smart said during his Monday press conference. “The group that sits in the front of this team meeting everyday is tremendous in terms of what they’ve meant to Georgia…A lot of those seniors have given back to their community. They don’t know the mark they’re leaving right now, but they’ll look back one day and be really proud of what they’ve been able to do here at Georgia during their tenure.”"

That inability to be selfish is a trait every coach wants to see in their players. Georgia has a team full of those guys, and now they’re undefeated.

If you look at the great national title teams in recent years, they are full of guys fighting for each other and accomplishing the goal as one. They are selfless teams that don’t have one person trying to do it all by themselves.

Georgia is on track to be the next team people talk about because of their camaraderie and ability to play each game like it’s their last.

The Dawgs have a group of seniors looking to leave quite the legacy. This legacy will set the foundation of many more successful seasons to come, or it’ll be a one-time thing. Hopefully, it’ll be the foundation of the next dynasty in the making, but we shall see.

This reason is why recruiting matters because Smart wants more guys like those who make up this senior class.

It’s hard to find a group like the one Georgia has right now, and that is why the Dawgs are 10-0 heading into the final stretch of the season, eyeing their first national title in 41 years.
