Georgia football has its most challenging task of the year on Saturday evening against Alabama in the 2021 SEC Championship.

The Dawgs come into the matchup undefeated at 12-0, while the Tide is 11-1 after falling to Texas A&M earlier this season.

Georgia has dominated teams week after week, smothering opponents and making them question why they play football in the first place.

Alabama still has one of the better defenses in the country but has struggled in a handful of games this year, having to fight to get wins.

While the Tide averages 42.67 points a game and 492 yards of offense, they aren’t the same kind of team college football fans are accustomed to seeing each season.

Georiga football has a defense hungry to shut down the Tide and can by doing these three things.

The Dawgs have given up just 83 points all season. Yup, 12 games and 83 points mean Georgia gives up on average 6.92 points a game. Now that is an elite number and something that hasn’t happened since the 1986 Oklahoma team averaged 6.8 points a game.

Of those 83 given up, 40 of them came during the fourth quarter when the Dawgs usually had taken out their starters and let the backups in for some game time experience. This week those backups are only coming in to give the starters a breather for a play or two.

The Dawgs’ opponents average 78.9 yards on the ground, 2.5 a rush, 151.92 passing yards, 4.93 an attempt, 230.8 total yards and 3.7 yards a play. Georgia has the No.1 total defense in the country, and it’s obvious why.

They are disciplined and don’t allow opponents to get to them.

Alabama is usually an extremely disciplined football team, but this season that hasn’t been the case. The Tide averages 68.92 penalty yards and averages 7.5 flags a game.

Georgia, on the other hand, averages 37.75 yards and 4.7 flags — a big difference there.

While Alabama is 11-1 on paper, it isn’t all roses and rainbows for them. The Dawgs have what it takes to beat the Tide and can do so by doing these three things against them on Saturday.
