Georgia football: Having the CFP championship on a Monday is an epic fail
Georgia football will take on Alabama in the College Football Playoff Championship on Monday, which is weird, right?
While the big national title games have always gotten played on Mondays, shouldn’t they be on a Saturday?
College teams play either Thursday or Saturday unless it’s a Friday or Monday early-season exception nowadays because there are so many teams television networks want on air.
However, having the national championship game on a Monday would be like moving Super Bowl Sunday to Thursday — it just doesn’t make any sense.
While we’re grateful that Georgia football is in the national championship, having it on a Monday is an epic fail.
It’s pretty evident why the game is on Monday, and it’s those green bills that sit in your wallet or purse. Money drives everything, so who wouldn’t want fans to fly into their city on Friday and stay three days instead of one or two.
The NFL playoffs are also during this time, and for some reason, they are on Saturday, so that is another reason, but it’s past time to switch some things around.
There is plenty of money that can get made if the game is on a Saturday, and that isn’t even counting the money made throughout the season already. College football is a prosperous industry that seems to get wealthier each year.
Having this game on a Saturday would help people who can’t get off work for the Monday one get to the game. Everyone should be able to afford and experience a national championship, especially Dawg fans who haven’t seen it in 41-years. Some of us have never seen a championship in Athens, and many of us don’t have thousands of dollars to spend.
Don’t get me wrong, I understand it is a unique game, but at the same time, it’s silly not to have it on a Saturday so more people can be included or have the chance to go.
Having it on a Monday is an epic fail because it makes zero sense. College football is on Saturday, not Monday. Plus, that 8 p.m. kickoff is even sillier. People work on Tuesday, and the game won’t end till after midnight. Having it on a Saturday would make far more sense for an 8 p.m. kickoff because, well, they do it all year long.
Of course, just because we feel like it shouldn’t be on a Monday doesn’t mean anything will change, but if you think about it, isn’t it kind of greedy to keep it there? College football, including Georgia football, makes more than enough money. It’s time they move the title game to a day that makes more sense for all fans, not just a select few who can be there on Monday.
