Georgia football dominated Michigan, but that doesn’t mean they should be favorites over Alabama in the upcoming College Football Playoff title game.

The Crimson Tide deserves to be favorites after embarrassing Georgia on Dec. 4 in the SEC Championship. It’s baffling that the vegas oddsmakers would make the Dawgs favorites, but it seems they think people will take it.

Sure, Georgia was dominant, and both sides of the ball shined against the Wolverines, but the Dawgs don’t need that on their plate.

Now Alabama will feel like the underdogs to motivate themselves when everyone knows Georgia is the true underdog because it’s lost seven straight to the Tide.

Georgia football hasn’t done anything to be favorites over Alabama in the upcoming title game.

According to WynnBET’s initial odds of the Jan. 10 showdown, Georgia is a 2.5 point favorite over the Tide. The under/over is 52.5 points. Then the current money line for the Dawgs is -145 and +125 for the Tide.

The 52.5 point total isn’t shocking because both teams can put up points if they get going. The whole 2.5-point favorite part is baffling because did everyone other than Dawg fans forget about what happened in Atlanta.

Sure, Georgia seemed to have found its identity again and shut down Michigan, but come on, man, favorites — that is flat out silly.

No one doubts Alabama, but the Tide will tell themselves that no one believes in them, and it’s just going to fire them up more. The whole rat poison comment from head coach Nick Saban after the SEC Championship game should tell you everything about how they motivated themselves.

Alabama is the defending national champion — they aren’t underdogs. The Tide has the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback on its roster that just hung 421 passing yards on the Dawgs — they are not even close to being the underdogs.

Yet, Alabama will use it to feel like they are because of this betting line, and if the media plays into it, that bulletin board will be full. They don’t need any more motivation, but here we are.

On the other hand, the Dawgs need as much motivation as possible. They need to meditate and figure out how to block out Alabama mentally. The Dawgs have the talent to beat the Tide, but there is a mental block there.

Head coach Kirby Smart wouldn’t even let his guys give him a Powerade bath because they still have more to do before they deserve to celebrate. There is one game left, and it’s the most important one, so until they finish the drill and accomplish their goal, no celebrating should happen.

Now that is a head coach focused on the big picture and wanting to win a national title for the first time in 41 years, but that doesn’t mean they deserve to be the early favorites for this title game. They should be big underdogs after the SEC Championship.

He knows who they’ll have to take on and how important that game will be for the program. Alabama is Georgia’s weakness, and until they beat the Tide, no one needs to celebrate — there is too much work to do.

Georgia does have a slight edge, though, because they will have a chip on their shoulder from getting so embarrassed, and history shows that when the Dawgs rematch with a team in the same season, it goes the Dawgs’ way.

However, at the same time, Georgia shouldn’t want anyone other than Alabama in this title game. If they want to truly send a message, beating the one team standing in their way is the easiest way to get the respect they already deserve.

Georgia needs to cut off all the noise and focus on getting better. They need to focus on themselves, shut out the media talking heads, and believe in themselves. It’s silly for anyone to think the Dawgs are going into this game as anything other than the underdog because that is what they are.
