Will injuries hold Alabama back?

Georgia football fans should take heart that the Bulldogs are nearing the healthiest they have been all season. Peak fitness at the perfect time will give the Dawgs one of their best chances of knocking Alabama off top spot.

But if that wasn’t enough, the Crimson Tide is facing a race against time to get players fit — a story that has been familiar for Alabama fans all season. In fact, that race has been lost for the likes of star wide receiver John Metchie III – out with an ACL tear and cornerback Josh Jobe who has a foot injury.

However, the race is on to have offensive linemen Emil Ekiyor and Chris Owens and cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis fit ahead of the Championship game on Monday.

Yes, you can point to the strength of roster depth to fill the injury-created vacancies, but no one, let alone head coach Nick Saban wants to go into the most important game of the season with a second or even third choice player at key positions.

Georgia fans will be eager to see the line ups announced ahead of the game – particularly on the Alabama O-line, the performance of which may well decide the outcome of the game.
