Georgia football had one of those historic teams the books loved to remember in 2021. While there are a lot of guys leaving, there are three positions that will define the 2022 team because those guys chose to stay.

After 15 players declared for the NFL Draft, the future of both the defense and a few offensive positions felt bleak. Of those 15 that left, five were juniors.

It stung a bit to see those five juniors leave because they were some of the Dawgs’ biggest playmakers. Georgia also has eight players to the transfer portal, but none mean as much as those who chose to stay. There were three receivers, a quarterback and four defensive backs that entered the portal. Of the eight, only two remain to announce where they will head.

The Dawgs out of the receiver room that left the portal, only one stung as Jermaine Burton was a quarterback favorite in 2021. Of the defensive backs, two played a lot, but they were both seniors and wanted to take their super senior year elsewhere.

So among the eight, Georgia could afford to lose them because there are playmakers in the positions they play.

Georgia football has three positions with the veteran leadership needed to stay elite in 2022.

Then seven key players decided to come back for their senior season or elect to take their COVID-19 year and become super seniors.

When those seven guys decided to come back, the stinging edged off a tad, and the realization hit. All seven of these guys played vital roles on last year’s team and now will be the leaders of the 2022 squad.

Georgia will, of course, have some work to do in terms of finding the right personnel, but the Dawgs are in far better hands than people realize.

These seven players prove that because much like Jordan Davis, James Cook, Devonte Wyatt, and the others who stayed last season are that of this year.

The three positions that will define the Dawgs’ success in 2022 are ones Georgia saw the most loss at, which is why head coach Kirby Smart is an evil genius. Great teams reload and these three positions prove why that statement will ring true in 2022.
