Georgia basketball takes on Iowa State tonight as the Lady Dogs look to make it to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2013.

Like the Lady Dogs did against Dayton in Round 1, they will use their experience to get over their own hump.

The football team got over theirs, and the baseball team secured a series win over defending national champion Mississippi State, so now it’s time for the Lady Dogs to make it to the Sweet 16.

Georgia basketball will use its strengths to take down Iowa State.

The Lady Dogs beat Dayton 70-54 while Iowa State beat UT Arlington 78-71.

Georgia will have a tougher test against the Cyclones, but it isn’t out of reach. The Lady Dogs can get the job done, they just need to keep using their experience to their advantage.

Iowa State is 27-6 overall on the season, and have Ashley Joens leading the way. She scored 36 points and 15 rebounds against UT Arlington. Joens is a force for the Cyclones. She averages 20.7 points a game on the season, and the senior will not go down without a fight.

Lexi Donarski scored 14 points in their first round game and Emily Ryans scored 20 points herself. She was red hot down the stretch scoring 11 of her points in the final 5:48 to beat UT Arlington.

As a whole Iowa State scores 76.9 points a game and give up 64. The Cylcones make 43.7% of their shots from the floor, 38.9% from beyond the arc and 81.4 % from the free throw line.

The Cyclone are a strong team that make smart decisions on the court.

For Georgia to beat the Cyclones they will have to be wise like they were against Dayton.

Jenna Staiti led the team on Friday with 18 points and Jillian Hollingshead scored 15 points against Dayton. Staiti and Que Morrison need to keep playing strong, but having Hollingshead also available is a huge addition for the Dawgs.

She is strong and aggressive in all the right ways and now that she has this strong performance under her belt, it’s going to continue.

The game plan needs to stay the same. Use the experience while elevating a freshman that plays like a veteran. Don’t make silly fouls and send the Cyclones to the foul line. Out rebound like you mean it and don’t make frivolous decisions.

Leadership will also be key to get another win over Iowa State. Georgia leads 3-0 against the Cyclones, so the Lady Dogs must keep playing confident basketball to advance to the Sweet 16 in almost 10 years.
