Georgia golf has been on a tangent recently and came away with a massive win at the Linger Longer Invitational by beating second-place Vanderbilt by four strokes. It was such a dominating performance.

The Dawgs posted a final-round 8-under 280 score to finish the event at 28-under 836.

Head coach Chris Haack has himself another incredibly talented group of golfers that continue to rise to the occasion.

This event was a big confidence booster as the regular season is wrapping up in the next couple of weeks. It was an even bigger boost for senior Trent Phillips and freshman Maxwell Ford as they earned weekly SEC honors after their impressive performances.

Phillips earned SEC Golf of the Week for the third time as a Dawg. Ford earned SEC Freshman of the Week, giving him his third of the season. These two are Georgia’s brightest stars, but that whole squad has talent.

Georgia golf always has talented teams, but this one’s got something special.

Phillips paced the Dawgs as he made seven birdies on his card for a 66. He made a 25-foot eagle putt on the final hole really secured a confident finish for him. He came in second on the individual leader board with an overall 10-under finish.

Not to mention, he leads the Dawgs with a scoring average of 68.49 with 11 rounds in the 60s. This year, Phillips already has one victory, two runner-up finishes, a fourth and a 10th in seven events.

Georgia saw Ford post a 71 on the final day and finished as the top freshman. He was just as instrumental for the Dawgs’ victory as Phillips was. His 9-under performance on the par 5s had to be a significant reason for another Freshman of the Week honors.

Ford will be the next big name to come out of Athens, but this entire team has something about them that makes people want to watch them.

These two golfers are going to be the ones to watch as the offseason as the Dawgs look for another SEC Championship and possibly another national title.

Phillips waited for this moment and has worked extremely hard to get his game where it’s at, and Ford is living up to all of the expectations after a successful amateur career.
