Georgia golf started the NCAA Regionals strong as the Dawgs sit in fourth after Day 1 by shooting a 7-under 281 on Monday.

The Dawgs are right in the mix of things and should be pretty proud of that Day 1 finish.

Arizona leads the regional at 12-under 276, Pepperdine shot 9-under 279, and Texas A&M went 8-under 280. Oregon State was No. 5 after Day 1 at 3-under 285.

There are two rounds left in this event as the Dawgs look to finish in the top 5 to advance.

Georgia golf sits in the perfect spot after Day 1 of the NCAA Bryan Regional.

The ladies’ golf program has already advanced to the NCAA National Championships, and now it’s time for the men to follow suit. After Day 1, it seems like the Dawgs came ready to play and ready to prove they deserve one of the spots in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Trent Phillips once again paced the Dawgs with a bogey free 4-under 68, which is the 15th time this year he has shot in the 60s. He made four birdies on the round and sits in third place in the individual portion and three strokes off the leader, Arizona’s Chase Sienkiewicz.

Phillips became the first Dawg in program history to earn First-Team All-SEC honors all four years he played. So it was great to see him follow that feat with a clean card.

One of the freshman sensations on the Dawgs’ team, Maxwell Ford, followed Phillips with a 3-under 69. He was 2-over after four holes, but that didn’t phase Ford as he fought through that adversity to shoot six of his seven birdies over the last 14 holes. He is in the top-10 of the individual portion.

Ben van Wyk shot a 2-under 70, and the other freshman stud Buck Brumlow carded a 2-over 74. The Dawgs saw three of the four counted scores under par, which is an excellent start to this challenging event.

Nicolas Cassidy was the fifth Dawg to play, and he finished with a 4-over 76, but his score didn’t count.

Georgia is battling in the program’s 26th straight and 32nd overall regional. Head coach Chris Haack has sent 25 of his teams to the postseason. This golf program is a special one, and if they get hot, they could go on to do something special.

Next. Georgia football is easily RBU and Alabama cannot steal that title. dark

Day 2 of the regional continues on Tuesday with the Dawgs teeing off with Oregon State, and SMU between 9 and 9:44 a.m. as the Dawgs look to maintain or push up the leaderboard.
