Georgia football moves the needle with 5-star official visit
Georgia football hosted some of the biggest 2023 targets this past weekend on official visits, and from the social media photos, it went well.
Recruits ran all over campus with their families doing the annual scavenger hunt. The best part was seeing that giant smile on head coach Kirby Smart’s face when each recruit had to find him and take a selfie.
Those moments are when coaches and recruits can bond with each other.
The Dawgs’ coaching staff is working on the 2023 class, and this past weekend unveiled some great news concerning future visits and how social media blew up about the visitors there. It felt like the weekend was a massive success.
Georgia football proves they’re the best recruiters by nailing the official visit for a 5-star.
On the 247Sports 2023 Team Composite Rankings, the Dawgs are No. 6 with eight commitments, including six 4-stars and two 3-stars. Georgia is No.2 in the SEC behind Arkansas, which is No. 5 overall.
The Dawgs are not moving slowly with this recruiting class but strategically — a few key official visits this past weekend, including 5-star Jayden Wayne.
According to 247Sports, Wayne ranks as the No. 28 overall player, No. 3 edge rusher and No. 1 player out of Washington.
He is a massive target and someone the Dawgs want badly and rightfully so — Wayne is a stud.
This guy is someone Georgia needs to land to keep that elite level of talent on the front seven, and he has the size and skill to be a top-tier SEC player.
Wayne is a 5-star edge rusher out of Washington state, so this cross-country visit was massive. He came for G-Day, and that visit seemed to go well, but this time in Athens, it was for an official visit, so the red carpet got rolled out for him.
According to 247Sports, Wayne ranks as the No. 28 overall player, No. 3 edge rusher and No. 1 player out of Washington.
Georgia is one of the teams battling for Wayne, and after this visit, the Dawgs moved the needle. They got the first official visit for this five-star this summer, and the Dawgs set the bar high.
The other teams battling it out for him are Alabama, LSU, Miami and Oregon.
At 6-5 and 245-pounds, Wayne is an ideal edge rusher and has room to grow. He has a great first step and burst off the ball. Wayne has excellent agility and quickness.
I like how Wayne rips blockers off and doesn’t give up in the pursuit. The coaches at Georgia could really work wonders with him. Oregon has Dan Lanning, but Georgia has Tray Scott and Chidera Uzo-Diribe, so that duo is just as good.
The key with Wayne will be making Athens feel like home, and this visit probably gave him a great indication of how it would be.
Georgia football has a great shot at Wayne, and after this official visit, the rest of his final schools will need a lot of luck to steer him away from the Dawgs.
