Georgia golf: The women rebound to keep title hopes alive
Georgia golf saw its women’s program advance deeper into the NCAA Tournament as the ladies sit tied for ninth after three rounds of stroke play at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The field went from 24 teams to 15 after the stroke play portion, and these ladies rebounded after a tough first day. Georgia shot a 303 on Day one, but they settled in the next two days as they posted 3-over 291 on Day 2 and 10-over 298 on Day 3.
There are five SEC teams of the 15 teams, including Georgia, Texas A&M, Auburn, LSU, and South Carolina. Georgia has the third highest SEC score behind the Aggies and Bayou Bengals.
Today, these girls will look to be one of the final eight teams to make it into the match play portion, which begins tomorrow.
Georgia golf sees its women’s program take one step closer to a national championship.
The Dawgs didn’t let a bad first round knock them down too much. They knew that if they kept battling, Georgia could be right in the mix, and these ladies did what they needed.
It was a solid performance from the Dawgs, and it was enough to make the first cut. Here is what the leaderboard looks like, and what the Dawgs are up against in Round 4 of stroke play.

Stanford was the only team to stay at even par or close to it as they led by nine shots before Monday’s round.
Georgia fought hard on Sunday, and it’s great to see these ladies battle one more day to keep their fight for another championship alive.
One of the Dawgs’ biggest leaders and their top golfer, Jenny Bae, paced Georgia on Sunday. She shot a 5-under 67, which, so far, is the low individual round of the 2022 NCAA Championship.
On Sunday, Georgia started on the 10th hole, and Bae immediately started hot. She birdied No. 11, No. 14, and No. 15 to make the turn at 3-under. Those bird putts kept falling on her second nine as she birdied No. 4, No. 7 and No. 8 before she bogeyed No.9 to finish the round.
She now sits tied for second place in the individual portion of the NCAA Tournament, shooting up 17 spots after her impressive Sunday round. It’s such a fantastic feat because Bae was 6-over through her first six holes on Friday, but she played the last 48 holes at 8-under, so something clicked when she needed it to, and Bae played well under pressure.
This score from Bae is the second-best in Georgia history at the NCAA finals site. The only score better than Bae’s was Vicki Goetze’s 7-under 65 in the final round of the 1992 NCAA tourney.
Georgia also saw Caterina Don shoot a 73, Candice Mahé saw a 77 and Jo Hua Hung was the fourth counted score at 81 on Sunday.
Monday’s round will crown the individual NCAA Champion and determine the final eight teams to make it into the match play portion. The match play bracket will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals on Tuesday then the finals will happen on Wednesday.
Georgia needs their girls to keep playing well, and it seems each day they grow stronger, so hopefully, Monday will see one of the best rounds from the group. Maybe Bae can become the next Georgia golfer to win a national championship.
The Dawgs will play with Purdue and Arizona State on Monday as these three teams tee off between 1:11-1:55 p.m. ET. They are starting on 10, which boded well on Sunday, so hopefully, that will continue on Monday.
Fans can watch live coverage on the Golf Channel on Monday from 2-6 p.m. ET. The network will also televise the match play competition on Tuesday at two different times — 9:00-11:30 a.m. and 2:00-6:00 p.m. ET. Plus, the Golf Channel will air the finals too at 2:00-6:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
