Georgia Football: Kirby Smart takes SEC Media Days stage today
Georgia football takes the stage today at SEC Media Days, and as the reigning national champion head coach Kirby Smart could be the most anticipated coach to discuss his team.
The first two days featured a lot of discussion about the Dawgs’ offense, Stetson Bennett and even a few media people predicting upsets.
Now that the big man will take the stage, hopefully, these individuals will see clearer than they have on Monday and Tuesday.
While Georgia lost a lot of talent to the NFL Draft, it doesn’t mean they will fall off in 2022. The Dawgs could do the exact opposite. Alabama and Clemson have been two of the programs that continue to contend yearly, but Georgia will be the third.
Smart and his Dawgs aren’t one-hit wonders, no, they are building something special in Athens, and Wednesday will give folks a glimpse of that. He won’t reveal too much, but Smart knows how talking season works, so he should provide the show we’ve all waited for this week. So many of these coaches have been good, but I’m waiting on Smart to drop a zinger to get the buzz going.
Georgia football coach Kirby Smart will likely steal the show at SEC Media Days.
His press conference begins at 10:30 a.m. ET as he will be the second coach to speak after Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman. The stage should be good and warmed up for Smart after Pittman’s turn, so it should be a fun morning in Atlanta.
NIL’s and similar topics will likely be something Smarts gets a lot of questions about, but after seeing what the Classic City Collective announced earlier this week, it seems he has a great answer.
Not to mention the amount of buzz surrounding him and the Texas High School Coach Association convention where he discussed NIL deals and how it’s changing college football.
Smart will likely get asked about his thoughts, and thankfully he will give them. That straightforwardness is what fans love most about him, so it’ll be exciting to see how he chooses to answer it.
Discussions of Bennett and the others coming back will be of question. These reporters will want to know if Georgia has the talent — newsflash, they do.
Smart should have plenty of topics to engage in because the Dawgs are champions and people want to know if it could happen again. Some media suggests that other SEC East programs could beat the Dawgs, but Smart’s group isn’t like former head coach Mark Richt’s. They’ve reloaded.
Bennett, Nolan Smith and Sedrick Van Pran are the three players who will be in Atlanta with Smart, and I don’t think there are three better guys for the job.
Smith is a defensive leader, Van Pran is a staple to the offense, and of course, Bennett is a hot-button topic, so you let him defend himself. He will have a chip on his shoulder, but that’s fine. Bennett thrives under pressure like that.
Georgia has a great group headed to Atlanta for SEC Media Days, so stay tuned to our coverage of today’s events. Who knows, Smart and his players could steal the show and show those other SEC teams how to work SEC Media Days the right way.
