Good morning Georgia football fans! Join us in this new segment called, Donut with the Dawgs. So sit down, grab a cup of joe and donut and check out the best storylines surrounding our favorite team.

The Dawgs are almost into a full week of fall camp, and the storylines surrounding Georgia are unlimited. Head coach Kirby Smart seems excited about this 2022 squad, so it means a lot of fantastic storylines to read.

With the offseason quickly ending, we wanted to start this new series to show just how incredible the publications that write about the Dawgs are. While we love covering the Dawgs and appreciate the support our readers bring, it’s also wise to share the love with the other journalists and experts.

A lot is going on with the football team, hall of fame ceremonies and recruiting moments, so let’s dive into the juiciest topics regarding our Dawgs.

Here are today’s top Georgia football headlines.

In this first edition of Donuts with the Dawgs, we highlight Georgia’s preseason rankings, some fall camp updates on specific positions, and how the Dawgs are officially LBU.

Up first is a trip to Dawg Nation to highlight a great story about Chris Smith and his leadership skills.

Georgia football safety Chris Smith ready to show younger teammates what it means to play big, By Connor Riley of Dawg Nation

Connor Riley of Dawg Nation highlights the safety position and how Chris Smith uses his leadership skills to mentor the younger players. The way he tells this story spoke to me because replacing someone like Lewis Cine is almost impossible.

However, the recruiting Georgia has done at the position has been great, so having someone like Smith there to show them the way will help this young group of safeties adapt to the culture. It’s clear from Smith’s quotes about Malaki Starks and JaCorey Thomas that he thinks they are great players with great potential.

Where did Georgia football land in the preseason USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll?, By Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald

Weiszer broke down where the Dawgs landed on the preseason coaches poll, which, surprise, surprise, the Dawgs aren’t No.1 in the country. Georgia isn’t even No. 2 on this poll — nope, they’re No. 3, which seems to be the consensus across most preseason rankings.

This ranking is utterly pointless, but it does create discussion among fans. Georgia deserves better than a No. 3 ranking because the Dawgs are defending national champions, but for now, let the world doubt what they are capable of achieving this season.

Georgia football: ESPN dubs UGA “LBU” as part of in-depth breakdown, By Jordan D. Hill of 247Sports

Hill does a great job providing a breakdown as to why Georgia is truly LBU. The linebacker staff does a great job recruiting and developing this position, so of all the titles, LBU is the second one that makes the most sense outside of RBU.

ESPN’s David Hale dubbed the Dawgs LBU, and we must agree with him. Georgia is elite at that position and saw one of their best groups go into the NFL in 2021, but this 2022 group could end up being better.

Georgia football: Tovani Mizell highlights from new 2024 4-star RB commitment, by Kip Adams of 247Sports

Sticking with 247Sports, our last article of the day is about the Dawgs’ newest 2024 running back commitment Tovani Mizell. Even though Mizell is a rising junior, he is so talented, but it’s wild to see how good he is. This running back is a rising star and someone to keep an eye on for the future.
