The days continue to drag by as the Georgia football opening matchup against Oregon nears. Fans are already on the edge of their seats, bursting with anticipation.

As if they needed to be even more excited, there is some speculation surrounding a video the College Football Hall of Fame dropped on Twitter to promote the game.

This video shows jerseys and helmets from both teams, but Georgia’s features an exciting twist. The Georgia helmet features a black stripe down the middle, a look that has not graced the helmet worn by a Dawg since 2000.

A look that originated in 1991 for the Independence Bowl against Arkansas, when the seniors requested a helmet with a black facemask and stripe for their final game. The helmet in the video does not feature a black facemask, though.

Will Georgia football don a retro jersey or even bring out the black ones for the showdown against Oregon?

The jersey is also a throwback featuring block numbers, which happen to be returning this season. This video has spurred quite a bit of speculation on Twitter as fans try to decipher what the throwback uniforms being promoted could mean.

Could Georgia take the field Saturday donning throwback uniforms? Or could the black stripe symbolize something else?

The black stripe could be a potential clue that the Dawgs could wear the fan-favorite black uniforms. Georgia has not worn its black alternate uniforms since its Peach Bowl victory against Cincinnati in the 2020 season, and fans have been calling for them to be brought back ever since.

The well-known group of Georgia super fans of the Spike Squad has been pushing for the Dawgs to “Blackout the Benz” against Oregon.

The black uniforms would be welcomed back by the fans; at this point, they are long overdue to return. Jinxes and superstitions aside, a blackout always provides an electric atmosphere, and alternate uniforms, in general, should be worn more often.

What do you think the uniform video means? Was it a cryptic message teasing fans about what to expect against Oregon, or the CFB Hall of Fame simply using the Georgia jersey they had at their disposal?

We’ll find out on Saturday.
