After the spectacular 2021 National Championship season for the Georgia football team, and the loss of significant players from last year’s extraordinary team, the focus now turns towards trying to fill those holes.
If there is even a question about how talented Georgia’s roster is, then the Dawgs will put that question to rest quite quickly. Even though the Dawgs lost those 15 incredibly gifted players, it doesn’t mean there isn’t any talent on Georgia’s team.
With the high-level recruiting and the talented returning players head coach Kirby Smart has back, Georgia can match up with anyone in the entire country.
For the Dawgs to win back-to-back national championships, they will need some key guys to step up and hit that next level of their game.
Losing a group of talented players can play a huge factor in whether or not the Dawgs can step up and perform above expectations for the 2022 season.
Georgia football seeks help from many of its talented players on the 2022 roster.
Smart and his staff have done a fantastic job every year bringing in players and having guys already inside the program step up and play a huge role.
For the Dawgs to contend, they will need to see a lot of production from both sides of the ball.
Here are three guys who can take their game to the next level and provide the needed production.
Kendall Milton, RB
The 6-1 and 220-pound junior running back is finally ready to take over after being under the likes of Zamir White and James Cook for the past two years.
Kendall Milton missed six games last year due to an injury but is now back and healthy for this upcoming season.
Milton has shown spurts of superstar potential throughout his two years at Georgia and hopes to keep building on that as he will get the bulk of the carries alongside his teammate Kenny McIntosh.
If anyone is ready to take their game to the next level, look no further than to the junior running back.
Throughout his time at Georgia, Milton has accumulated 457 total yards with one touchdown. Expect those stats to elevate to another level for the 2022 season.
Milton hopes to elevate his game to the next level and continue the legacy of great running back duos.
MJ Sherman, OLB
If there has been anyone doing his time and waiting for his moment, that person is no one other than junior outside linebacker MJ Sherman.
The 6-2 and 250-pound linebacker from Baltimore, Maryland, will need to step up and take control of the linebacking core after losing three outstanding players, Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker, and Channing Tindall, all to the draft.
Most of Sherman’s playing time comes from being on the kickoff coverage unit, but things will widely change for the junior this year. He has emerged as a favorite to be one of the starting linebackers, but if he wishes to keep that job, he will have to take his game to the next level.
Sherman hopes to be the next great Georgia linebacker in the wait of claiming another national title.
Dominick Blaylock, WR
There is no one more ready for a chance to make huge plays on the field for the Dawgs than redshirt junior receiver Dominick Blaylock.
Blaylock’s career at Georgia gets described by one word — uncertainty. After a tremendous freshman season with 18 receptions for 310 receiving yards and five touchdowns for the Dawgs, the injury bug bit him hard.
In the 2019 SEC Championship Game against LSU, Blaylock tore his ACL, ending his season.
Later in 2020, before the season started, he re-injured that same ACL and would be out for the season.
Blaylock then suffered a hamstring injury putting him back even further for the 2021 season. He would not see action for two years until hitting the field in a late November game against Charleston Southern, where he would catch a couple of passes for 11 yards.
We know what the wideout is capable of, and he is now ready to make a massive statement for the 2022 season and build upon what he started in his first year.
Georgia will look for others to step up in 2022, but these three guys are the ones that need to take their game to another level. When these players are at their best it only makes Georgia that much better.
