Well, the first 2022 College Football Playoff rankings are out, and Georgia football comes in at No.3 behind No.2 Ohio State and No.1 Tennessee. Whoever made this happen on the playoff committee, the entire Dawg nation sends our deepest appreciation.

While Georgia holds onto that No.1 ranking on the AP Top 25 poll, this poll is the one that everyone accounts for as the top one. Georgia doesn’t need that top spot because this ranking is just the first. The last one is the only one that truly matters.

Head coach Kirby Smart is likely laughing in his office tonight, knowing the Dawgs got the perfect ranking because now they can do the hunting, and that target is on someone else’s back.

Georgia football got the right ranking in the first 2022 CFP rankings.

The Dawgs have one ranked win over No. 8 Oregon, which is likely why they are No.3, but it’s all good. We knew that this schedule was easy, and after the way Georgia struggled against Missouri and Kent State, it’s understandable why they aren’t No.1.

No rat poison for the Dawgs, and that is huge heading into this final stretch of the regular season. The less pressure on Georgia, the better because it will allow the Dawgs to play their game. It almost seems like some of the committee is underestimating Georgia by dropping them to No.3, but the Dawgs will take that ranking and run with it.

At SEC Media Days, Smart said that the Dawgs would not be hunted this year. Instead, they would do the hunting, and this ranking allows Georgia to do that.

Georgia was No.1 after the first CFP rankings in 2017 too, and we all know what happened after that — a beatdown from Auburn. The Dawgs are still growing, so being where they are is perfectly fine.

Let Tennessee have that No.1 spot because it comes with a lot of weight. Georgia will continue to work hard and find a way to win on Saturday against the Vols to prove themselves.
