Georgia football has a talented linebacker room, and Smael Mondon is one of those guys that fit the mold of what people describe as an elite player. He has been someone that has helped Georgia stay elite in 2022 on defense and helped the Dawgs not skip a beat.

The Dawgs have a young linebacker group, and Mondon is still learning, but his raw talent is too good not to notice. When he is on the field, people know it. After missing a little time from an injury, Mondon returned with a vengeance.

He has stepped up in so many ways for the Dawgs in the last few weeks, and with the postseason quickly approaching, Georgia will need him to stay sharp. With Mondon and the rest of the linebackers, the Dawgs should be in good hands at that position. While Nolan Smith’s injury was a harsh blow to the linebackers, Georgia has seen multiple guys step up and fill the void.

Smael Mondon will join the other greats in the long line of Georgia football linebackers.

This past week against Kentucky, Mondon led the team with 11 tackles and three quarterback hurries. Despite missing two games, he is the No.3 leading tackler. Mondon has 52 tackles, five tackles for loss, one pass breakup, and 12 quarterback hurries.

On Monday, his teammate Jamon Dumas-Johnson responded perfectly about who Mondon is.

"“Ever since Smael has been back, he’s just been putting on a show. Doing what he does best. Run, cover, hit, everything,” Dumas-Johnson said. “Everything you could want in a linebacker, that’s what Smael is. Relentless, physical, smart, fast, big.”"

Georgia football has a team-first culture, and the linebackers epitomize that with their actions on and off the field. Dumas-Johnson knows his teammate better than anyone else. For him to provide that kind of statement about Mondon tells you how high Dumas-Johnson thinks of him.

Mondon is just a sophomore, so the Dawgs have at least one more season with him, which will only elevate him in the linebacker rankings. He is learning alongside Dumas-Johnson right now, but these two have the makings of being one of the next great linebacker duos.
