Georgia football: Odds and prediction for the 2022 SEC Championship Game
Georgia football finished the regular season 12-0 after putting away Georgia Tech last Saturday. Now the Dawgs will turn to the SEC Championship to take on SEC West champs, the LSU Tigers.
This game is somewhat of a revenge matchup for the Dawgs since the last time these two teams met, LSU was on their historic 2019 run. However, the roles are switched in 2022 as the Bayou Bengals just fell for the third time this fall, and the Dawgs are on their historic run for back-to-back titles.
Head coach Kirby Smart will have his guys ready for this war, especially since Alabama took away the SEC Championship last year. Winning your conference championship is on the goal list for 2022, and the Dawgs have an excellent opportunity to do just that.
LSU is one of the only teams left that Smart has faced and not gotten revenge on, so Saturday should feature a very motivated Georgia team.
Georgia Football vs. LSU Tigers odds for the SEC Championship
The Dawgs come into the SEC Championship as 17.5-point favorites over the Bayou Bengals on FanDuel. The spread line has Georgia at -115 and LSU at -105. So if you bet $100 on Georgia to cover the spread, you’ll win around $86.96, or if you pick LSU to cover, you will win $95.24.
Fan Duel currently has the money line odds for this game at +640 for LSU and -1000 for the Dawgs. A $100 bet for LSU will be a $640 winning ticket, and for Georgia, it would be $10.
The over/under is 50.5 points, with the over and under at -110 for the Dawgs’ final home game of the season. So if betting on the over/under is more your speed, throwing down $100 on either would result in you winning around $90.91.
Georgia Football vs. LSU Tigers prediction for the SEC Championship:
Georgia didn’t cover the spread against Georgia Tech last week, but the Dawgs almost did — the Yellow Jackets scored a garbage touchdown late in the game to cover themselves.
With this spread at 17.5 points, that seems large, but with the amount of motivation that Georgia will have not to lose the SEC title two years in a row, I would say the Dawgs will cover. Smart will motivate this team to play with a chip on their shoulders.d
Georgia hasn’t covered in two weeks because of conservative play and late touchdowns, but now the real season begins, and there will be no conservative game plans. The Dawgs will come out ready to send LSU back to the bayou with their Tiger tail between their legs. After 2019’s embarrassment, Georgia will not let that happen again.
The 2019 LSU game in the SEC Championship was the last time Georgia has gotten blown out by an opponent. LSU won 37-10, so by 27 points, the last time someone genuinely beat the Dawgs. Smart remembers that, and this team will know what this game means so that it could get ugly in Atlanta.
The Dawgs will not overlook LSU because if they win, the No.1 seed in the College Football Playoff will be in the bag. Now history suggests being the No.1 seed isn’t all that for the playoff, but the Dawgs are changing the narrative in 2022, and it starts by winning the SEC Championship over the Bayou Bengals.
Georgia wins 45-14.
