Georgia football starting quarterback Stetson Bennett fell short of winning the Heisman Trophy, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is an absolute legend. Bennett has helped transform this program and got them over the hump. What he has done for Georgia is far more than what one trophy can signify.
Who cares that he didn’t win the Heisman Trophy? It doesn’t make him any less of a legend, and it doesn’t define who Bennett is. His story is still absolutely incredible to think about, and his being in New York City was respected enough by the Heisman voters. They didn’t have to vote him in as a finalist, but they did, which is a very significant honor. Not everyone gets to be a winner or a finalist — Bennett got to be one of them.
Seeing him fall short of this honor stinks, but Georgia fans should be so proud of Bennett. He has been able to do more than almost any other quarterback in Georgia’s history. Not to mention that his story isn’t over, as Bennett has two more playoff games to win for the Dawgs. The Heisman Trophy winner usually doesn’t play great in these big playoff moments, anyway, so it’s for the best that he didn’t win it.
Georgia football quarterback Stetson Bennett doesn’t fall short of legend status.
His confidence on and off the field is admirable. Bennett doesn’t need a trophy to signify his worth. He knows he is worthy of being in New York City and worthy of being the starting quarterback for a program like Georgia.
Bennett is a legend — plain and simple. If he goes out on top, that stats will be even more solidified, but even if he doesn’t, the Mailman is one of the best to ever wear that Georgia uniform. We all hoped that a miracle would happen and Bennett would hoist that trophy, but it didn’t happen. That’s okay. Bennett won his conference championship and has a chance to repeat as national champs.
Georgia football appreciates individual awards, but it isn’t the one that holds the most weight. The one that does get awarded in January is the best trophy in college football. Bennett knows how to handle this stage, and the first step is taking out the Heisman third-place finisher CJ Stroud and his Ohio State Buckeyes.
These four guys were all class acts in how they carried themselves in this Heisman process, but now it’s all business on the field, and Bennett has the most experience among them all. Let what happens in the next two games define how his legacy finishes at Georgia, not if he won the Heisman Trophy.
