The Georgia Bulldogs got more good news the last couple of days as one of the veterans decided to return for another season, and head coach Kirby Smart is a finalist for another coach of the year award.

It’s been a wild week of news with rumors swirling and lots of analysis for this game. Georgia is a day away from taking on Ohio State as the Dawgs and Buckeyes are almost ready to battle it out for a spot in the national championship. We’re almost there, but before we discuss the game any more, we wanted to take the time and dig into these two news topics for our daily brief.

The Dawgs have a loaded roster full of talent and a coaching staff that continuously helps make them even better, so it’s important to talk about them when good things happen. Today’s news brief will be short and sweet, but we still wanted to give Smart and this player the time they deserve.

The Georgia Bulldogs will see Kendall Milton back for the 2023 season.

Running back Kendall Milton announced he would return next year even though he is NFL Draft eligible. This news is huge for the running back room as they need bodies there. Georgia likes sharing the load, and this will give them a veteran guy back there who needs more reps. Unfortunately, he has been injured on and off throughout his career, but now he has the time to stay healthy and prove all his doubters wrong.

Milton has shown flashes of greatness, so it’s exciting that he will return for another season. On the year, he has 72 carries for 533 yards and six touchdowns. He averages 7.4 yards a touch, which is the best among the backs who get consistent carries.

Georgia can use him in the backfield next year, and if he can stay healthy, it could be a breakout season for Milton.

The Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart is a George Munger Collegiate Coach Of The Year Award finalist.

Smart is already up for multiple coach of the year awards, but the latest is the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award. The Maxwell Football Club announced this on Thursday, and it’s not Smart’s first time being a finalist. He was also one in 2017.

The other finalists are Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, Ohio State’s Ryan Day, TCU’s Sonny Dykes, Tennessee’s Josh Heupel and Tulane’s Willie Fritz. This list of coaches seems to be the ones that have all been among the finalists for coach of the year, depending on which one it is.

Smart has his team back in the playoffs after losing 15 guys to the NFL Draft. The Dawgs are, of course, 13-0 and will take on Ohio State on New Year’s Eve. The winner of this award will be made on Jan. 10, and the coach will get the award at the Maxwell Awards Gala in March.
