Greg McElroy said on ESPN that Georgia football’s potential downfall is complacency and losing its edge.

Look, that might be true. All of last year Kirby Smart told the team they were being disrespected (which they were) and the players bought into that. But what many forget is that Smart challenged the team by saying “What have you done”. For last year’s team, many of the starters were replacing guys who went to the NFL. So the playing time they had was limited on the 2021 title team.

This year is a little bit of the same, Smart challenged his players by saying “What have you done to earn the praise?” In my mind, this fights off any idea of complacency and losing your edge. But again, what do I know?

Georgia definitely will have to fight off complacency. Any time a team that wins a title has to fight that; it’s human nature to get complacent. Look at the Braves in 2022. Start of the season they were playing below .500 ball and it took Snitker to hold a meeting for them to turn it around.

I don’t think Georgia, once the season starts, will have to fight complacency. It’s football, as soon as you get hit complacency ends rather quickly. The downfall of Georgia football in 2023, is if Beck doesn’t live up to expectations and the depth on the lines of scrimmage.

The SEC is a challenging conference to play in. Regardless, of how other conferences feel or how the media tells you how easy Georgia’s schedule is, this Conference is hard to play in. Smart always says “Humility is a week away.” That ladies and gentlemen is true. Georgia could lose because they simply went through the motions. Again, I don’t think this Georgia team is capable of doing that.  But look at that 2019 South Carolina game. Georgia just went through the motions.

But for Georgia not to win the national title this year there is one key. It’s a key that has held throughout sport since men in togas were playing them. Georgia won’t win a national title because the opposing team is better than Georgia. Gasp! Novel concept, Max! While yes, that sounds idiotic, it’s true. But how many units are better than Georgia? How many teams are on the same level as Georgia? Two? Maybe.

It’s going to take a great effort to beat Georgia. The only opponent as of August that can beat Georgia football is Georgia.
