Georgia football: Georgia fans and Sanford Stadium get called out
By Max Tolbert
Georgia football fans have once again been disrespected. Tonka Hemingway, a senior defensive tackle for the Gamecocks, did not classify Sanford Stadium as one of the toughest road environments in the SEC during SEC media days.
First, who names their kid Tonka? What a terrible name. Second, Tonka will regret not naming Sanford Stadium on that list. Even if Sanford Stadium were not one of the most challenging places to play, which it is, I would make sure I name it because I will be going to that stadium that season.
Georgia fans probably needed the motivation, given that the Dawgs are 24.5-point favorites.
In his weekly meeting with the press, Kirby Smart called out the fanbase to show that they and Sanford Stadium are elite. Smart said, “What people want to question whether our fans are elite, we’ll find out Saturday, right? It sounds like Tonka called ‘em out, Maybe we need to use Tonka for motivation and let him be the one that spurns our group to come out there at 3:30 and be really loud and fired up. I certainly hope our fan base will be. They’ve answered the bell every single time. I don’t know why they wouldn’t now.”
Every time the Georgia fan base needs to show out, they do. I know Georgia should beat up on South Carolina, but the fans in attendance need to make a true home-field advantage. Time and time again, Georgia fans are told how we are not loud and complain too much on social media. Now is the time to step it up. Georgia does not have that great of an SEC home game schedule, so we need to make the most of it. Not only do we need to be loud on Saturday, but this is also a time to show the rest of college football why Georgia is elite.
I’m tired of the constant disrespect this fanbase gets, and Tonka added to that. So once again, just like our team, we must silence the doubters. I want Tonka to apologize for his list post-game after the Dawgs crush the Gamecocks.
So, for the fans going to the game, make sure you are loud, obnoxious Georgia fans. Also, be early and don’t leave after the third quarter. This is bragging rights against an SEC school, and for some reason, South Carolina fans are always delusional.
I feel bad for Tonka. Anytime an opposing player says something about Georgia, they usually get beat and beat badly. So make sure Sanford is like the Tennessee game last year. There is no excuse for it not to be.
