The sky was falling in the first half for Georgia football. Not only was rain falling on an electric Sanford Stadium, the offense was sputtering across the field. It was neither a pretty game nor a pretty day in Athens.

It, indeed, was a tale of two halves for the Dawgs. Georgia went four possessions in the first half. One possession was with a minute left in the second quarter, and we won’t get into how ugly that was. Georgia really only had three possessions. The first drive of the game for the Dawgs went for 15 plays, 62-yard drive ended with a field goal, not terrible. But, the Gamecocks had a 10-play, 65-yard, which resulted in a touchdown. Georgia looked like they would answer with another touchdown when the offense bogged down in the red zone. Ultimately, the 13-play, 72-yard drive ended in a missed field goal. South Carolina got the ball back and scored. A massive 10-point swing.

Some blogger, Max Tolbert, a complete idiot, said, “This game feels weird, and I do not want a defeatist attitude, but it does not look good right now. I am more nervous about this game than the Ohio State game. Georgia has not played well in all three phases. This was supposed to be a test to see where we are at. So far, mid-way through the test, we are failing”.

Whatever Smart said at halftime to the team put a fire under them. The team that came out of halftime was not the same team that took the field in the first half. Georgia’s defense played lights out and did not give up another point to the Gamecocks. The offense scored 21 unanswered points.

No, Georgia did not cover the spread. The Dawgs only won by 10. Let’s be honest; they had a chance to score at least two more times. But the second half did show that this Georgia team has a ton of resilience. There are areas where this team needs to improve. I am unsure if it has anything to do with the new faces in critical spots (*ahem* kicker), but the slows starts need to end. For those wanting to blame Beck, He threw 269 yards and completed 27 out of 35 attempts. So he is not the problem.

This team still needs to gel, but time is almost up, with Auburn on the road in two weeks. I still have not hit the panic button, however. There are concerns; getting in a knife fight with an inferior opponent is one concern. I still have hope that some of the issues will be corrected. Here is one that can be fixed rather quickly. Stop the with the consecutive playcalling, Bobo! Good lord, I will have an aneurysm watching Bobo call another wide receiver screen! Also, can we use Brock Bowers more? For a minute, I thought he was already in the NFL in the first half.

A win is a win; they do not weigh more if you cover a spread. So we move on. Hopefully, some things get corrected. But right now, this Georgia football team is not a national champion.
