Georgia hasn't had a quarterback drafted since Stetson Bennett was selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. That however is expected to change next year thanks to Gunner Stockton.

Stockton proved that he was one of the top quarterbacks in the country last season. He not only finished in the top 10 in Heisman Trophy voting last year which has set his expectations sky high for him this season, but he led Georgia to a near perfect 12-1 record before the playoff.

Unfortunately the first 2027 NFL mock draft shows that he still has a lot of work to do because he was not projected to go in the first round when other QBs currently on his level were.

2027 NFL mock draft gives Gunner Stockton a new goal to strive for

There are three quarterbacks currently projected to be first round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. They are Oregon's Dante Moore, Texas's Arch Manning and Oklahoma State's Drew Mestemaker.

All three quarterbacks are great players who deserve this recognition, but is Stockton that much worse than them? The argument could be made that he is better than them all, but at the very least he isn't as far behind them as this mock draft suggests.

This however is just the motivation that Stockton needs to propel him ahead of this season. It's one thing when random members of the media suggest he is a bad quarterback, but it's completely different when a mock draft says that.

The NFL is Stockton's future, so how the league views him is the one external opinion that does matter as he strives to become Georgia's next quarterback in the league.

Stockton has a lot to work on this offseason still if he is going to be the player that Georgia needs him to be, but this added motivation will only help him as he strives to lead UGA to a title while becoming a first round draft pick.
