College football fans either love Gunner Stockton or hate him. Fans in Athens tend to think he is one of the best quarterbacks in the country, but anyone outside of Georgia continues to question if he is good enough to lead UGA to a National Championship.
That debate will certainly continue until he either wins a title for Georgia or doesn’t, so until he does he will have to hear others continue to criticize him. And the latest example is legendary NFL wide receiver Steve Smith who unloaded a wild take on him out of nowhere.
“The quarterback play from the Georgia Bulldogs… uhh… awful. Uhhh dog doo-doo,” Steve Smith said via x.com.
Steve Smith’s opinion of Gunner Stockton goes too far
Who is Smith? He is one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history who ended his long career with the Carolina Panthers with the 8th-most receiving yards in NFL history. So he is someone who clearly knows what he’s talking about, except when it comes to Stockton.
Smith was scouting Georgia wide receiver Dillon Bell ahead of the NFL Draft when he made this comment. So he wasn’t even focused on Stockton, yet he felt the need to say this about him.
Smith didn’t add any clarity as to why he thinks this way about Stockton, but that kind of makes his opinion even worse. If he is going to say something that outrageous out of nowhere then he should back his opinion up, failing to do so just makes him lose some of his credibility.
There’s a good chance that Stockton won’t even see this because he is so locked in on getting better this offseason. But this is just another example of someone not believing in Stockton that he’ll (hopefully) end up proving wrong in no time.
