247Sports predicts worst season for Georgia in Kirby Smart era

A lot of college football "experts" must not know how things work at Georgia.

One thing everyone loves to do in sports is cheer against the best team. That is what Georgia football has been experiencing in recent years as they have been the best and most consistent program in all of college football. But even though Georgia won the SEC Championship and made the College Football Playoff in 2024, some believe last season was a sign of a program on the decline.

Georgia continues to be doubted heading into next season for a variety of reasons, but the consensus among college football experts is that they will not be able to successfully defend their SEC crown. But 247Sports' analyst Gerald Dixon just took things to the next level with his latest prediction.

Dixon was asked if UGA will have the worst season under Kirby Smart next season, and he sounds very confident that will be exactly what happens.

"Absolutely. You just lost your best quarterback in a long time in terms of physical skillset. Receivers couldn't catch the ball, so it's not like you improved the receiver spot... The running game has not looked the same in terms of guys up front to block and create holes. And your number one running back likes to fumble the ball."

This claim is ridiculous

Georgia's worst season under Smart was his first year when Georgia went 8-4, so when asked directly if he thinks Georgia will only win seven games Dixon responded with "very possible."

Nobody is denying that there is a chance Gerogia could regress in 2025 as these points brought up by Dixon are all major concerns heading into the fall, but is there even a chance Georgia could go 7-5 this year? Not at all.

Even though Georgia lost a lot of talent to the NFL Draft and transfer portal, they still have one of the most talented rosters in the country. On top of that, Georgia losing a lot of talent is nothing new to them. The Bulldogs lose a lot of talent every offseason and that has not impacted the program negatively at all up to this point, so it's wild to think it all of a sudden will make Georgia lose five games.

People have a right to worry about Georgia heading into this season, but it's hard to see a scenario where they go 7-5. All of the concerns mentioned by Dixon were present during the 2024 season, and UGA still went on to win the SEC and earn the 2-seed in the College Football Playoff. So even if Georgia has a lot of the same problems this year as they did in 2024, it's hard to imagine them having this big of a drop off.
