The Georgia Bulldogs never cease to surprise us year in and year out. Last year held several, such as Chauncey Bowens surging as a true freshman and Gunner Stockton leading the team in rushing touchdowns for the season.
While 2026 will certainly have some surprises, there are three thigs that could happen that would shock many fans.
1. Offense will total over 3,000 rushing yards for first time since 2022
In 2025 the Bulldogs ran the ball 580 times during the season. The last time the team ran the football that much the backfield consisted of Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and D'Andre Swift.
Georgia tallied 2,550 rushing yards last season, but in 2026 they could do much better than that. The Bulldogs return Nate Frazier, Chauncey Bowens, and Dwight Phillips as well as Gunner Stockton who is more than capable of taking off with his legs.
The last time Georgia returned their top three rushers from the previous season they won their first national title in over 40 years. Georgia's key to success has always been to be able to run the ball. Now with returning rushers and four returning starters on the offensive line there is a chance they could eclipse the 3,000 yard mark.
2. Kaiden Prothro wins SEC Freshman of the Year
Mike Bobo is experimenting and has shifted true freshman Kaiden Prothro to receiver after he was recruited as a tight end. It's unclear if this will stick, but if it does he could easily becomes Georgia's scariest pass catcher since Brock Bowers (who won SEC Freshman of the Year in 2021).
Prothro at receiver would give Stockton a big target to throw to on the outside. Put together Prothro's 6'6" frame and freakish athletic ability and he could turn heads in 2026.
3. Gunner Stockton is a Top 4 Heisman Finalist
This one should not be a bold take, but to many it is. Despite finishing in the top 10 in Heisman voting a year ago, many people have left Stockton off their lists going into the new season. He finished in the top 10 too despite not airing the ball downfield consistently.
Now with that being a high priority for him this past offseason and preseason scrimmages the rest of the country needs to watch out. To bounce off the first take a bit, the last time Georgia had 3,000+ rushing yards was in 2022 when Stetson Bennett finished fourth in Heisman voting.
Stockton could have a similar season as Bennett did if all these things happen. This 2026 team could show glimpses of that undefeated 2022 championship roster in many ways, and Stockton's experience and ability being similar to Stetson Bennett could be one thing that carries this team to success and himself to loads of individual success.
