Expectations are sky high for Georgia this season, but Kirby Smart wouldn't have it any other way. A difficult schedule however stands in Georgia's way from living up to those expectations, but that is something Smart probably wouldn't have any other way either.
When looking at Georgia's schedule there are three games that immediately stand out from the rest. These are the three biggest games that will define Georgia's season while setting the stage either for a remarkable year or a season where they fall short of their goals.
1. Ole Miss Rebels
The only team in the country that Georgia needs to get revenge against is Ole Miss. Not only did the Rebels end Georgia's season last year in the playoff, but they've defeated Georgia two of the last three times they played.
This includes a 28-10 demolition in Oxford in 2024.
Georgia unfortunately will have to face Ole Miss on the road again this season against a Rebels team with their eyes on the playoff for a second year in a row. A loss wouldn't kill Georgia's hopes of having a great season, but a victory would put them in position to make a run at all of their goals this year.
2. Oklahoma Sooners
Georgia as a handful of high profile home games this season, but none are bigger than when Oklahoma comes to Athens in week four.
This will be Georgia's first true test of the season and will inform the college football world of how legit they are. Losing this game would be detrimental considering the difficult road games on the horizon, but a convincing win would show that Georgia is legit and not to be messed with this year.
3. Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama is always the biggest game of the season whenever they are on Georgia's schedule. Usually these two teams play in the SEC Championship game, but for the third year in a row they will battle during the regular season.
Alabama has won the previous two regular season matchups, but it's Georgia with all the bragging rights right now after dismantling the Tide in the SEC Championship game last year.
This game is on the road in Tuscaloosa so it is a game that Georgia can afford to lose without ruining their season. But imagine if Georgia won this game. This is the most difficult game on their schedule, so a victory would set them up to win the SEC for the third year in a row and earn a high seed in the College Football Playoff as well.
There is a world where Georgia goes 3-0 in these games. It may seem unlikely, but Georgia is talented enough and Kirby Smart is a good enough coach where they could go undefeated in these games and propel themselves to a deep postseason run.
