Even though it is only May, ESPN's College GameDay has already announced the location for their hit pregame show for the first two weeks of the season. They recently announced that the GameDay crew is headed to Baton Rouge in Lane Kiffin's debut at LSU against Clemson in week one followed by Ohio State's trip to Austin to face Texas in week two.
With all the buzz surrounding the crew, fans are starting to speculate where the other destinations will be. It is unlikely that they will announce any other destinations until the regular season begins, but Georgia fans should set their hopes high that the crew will head to their matchup against Oklahoma in Athens during week four this season.
Story line of Oklahoma-Georgia is too good for GameDay good to overlook
September 26th will be the first time the Georgia Bulldogs face the Oklahoma Sooners since the double overtime game in 2018 in the CFP semifinals. In what went down as arguably the greatest Rose Bowl ever, Georgia came away with the victory in a wild 54-48 heavyweight bout.
Though Oklahoma joined the SEC two years ago, this will also be the first time the two have met since then. For reference, the quarterback of that Oklahoma team at the 2018 Rose Bowl was Baker Mayfield. The Georgia backfield consisted of Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, and true freshman D'Andre Swift. That is how long ago it has been.
Now, the two programs have gone down separate, yet somewhat similar, paths. Georgia has won two National Championships and three conference titles since then. Oklahoma, while not having any National Championships to speak of, has three conference titles of their own and has several playoff appearances as well.
Both programs also have quarterbacks in Heisman consideration with John Mateer and Gunner Stockton at the helm. With both defenses returning several starters as well, this game should light up Sanford Stadium.
Hype is also already building for this matchup as well. CBS Sports recently discussed Georgia's matchup with Oklahoma and warned Gunner Stockton of all people just how challenging it will be for him against their stellar defense.
This game by far looks to be the best option for GameDay during week four. While Oregon does play USC and Texas travels to Tennessee, both Oklahoma and Georgia are likely going to be 3-0 and will probably be the highest ranked matchup of the week.
This is too good of an opportunity for GameDay to pass up.
