Georgia faces a difficult SEC schedule they will have to survive if they are going to repeat as SEC Champions, but there are a handful of other games across the conference that will impact their championship hopes as well.
Even with a 12-team playoff format, college football has remained the same in the fact that the margin for error is miniscule. Specifically, the SEC and the format of the conference championship game means that teams are constantly awaiting the results of outside matchups.
These matchups can either give Georgia insight on a future opponent or determine whether they have a better chance to get to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta or not. For the Georgia Bulldogs, there are three regular season games across the SEC landscape that could greatly impact the outlook of their 2026 season as a whole.
1. Week 3: LSU vs Ole Miss
Sports fans across the nation have had this game circled since December. College Gameday just announced this week that they are officially headed to Oxford, Mississippi for this intense matchup. Going into the season, both these teams are ranked in the top 12 by ESPN.\
As far as what Georgia fans need to watch, they need to be able to see two things by the end of the night. Georgia will need to see how they stack up against an LSU team they could face in the SEC Championship game or in the playoff and they need to see what Ole Miss looks like ahead of their rematch in Oxford this season.
LSU has been ranked all over the board in preseason top 25 rankings by experts. While some have the Tigers as a top five team others don't even see them finishing the season ranked. LSU's competitiveness in this game will determine just how much of a postseason threat this team really is. Georgia does not play LSU in the regular season. However, if the Tigers win in Oxford they will be in a solid position to run the table and earn a playoff berth and maybe even a shot to get to Atlanta for the SEC title game.
Ole Miss and Georgia met twice in 2025 and both times provided some of the best games the nation saw that year. The catalyst behind those games was the offense for both teams. Though both teams bring back a lot of that same firepower from a year ago, Ole Miss is obviously not going to have Kiffin or offensive coordinator Charlie Weis calling the offense anymore. Though Golding did just fine in the postseason without Kiffin and Weis, this is a new team with a new identity. This game will give Georgia fans a glimpse as to what Ole Miss is in 2026 and if they could beat UGA again.
2. Week 4: South Carolina vs Alabama
This game might come as a shock, but it is much more important that fans might realize because this game is a first in several categories for both teams. This game will mark Alabama's first home SEC game after traveling to Kentucky and playing at home against Florida State. Respectfully, those two teams do not have the same level of expectation to be a serious threat.
South Carolina brings back one of the nation's most exciting duos in quarterback LaNorris Sellers and receiver Nyck Harbor. This game will be the Gamecocks' first away game, and a tough one at that. Before Bama, the Gamecocks only opponent that has better than a 1 percent chance to win is Mississippi State, who only has a 23 percent chance to pull off the upset.
This game serves as the first true test for both programs in the SEC. Alabama will have a new starting quarterback this year. By week four, their starter will have had a chance to get comfortable in game-time scenarios. Not only that, this will likely be the first game they will be put in situations where he has to throw the football downfield against a top defense. For Georgia to have to play Alabama just two weeks after this game, Bama's performance against South Carolina will say a lot about the level of threat the Tide poses to the Bulldogs and their stout defense.
South Carolina has been a wild card team ever since Shane Beamer took over the program. With the experience they bring back this season, many consider this a make or break year for Beamer on this team. But once again, they can either be a serious CFP threat or a complete flop. South Carolina has been within one or two plays of beating Alabama the past two years. Georgia plays them on Nov. 21, so UGA should pay close attention to this game.
3. Week 13: Texas vs Texas A&M
Neither the Texas Longhorns nor Texas A&M Aggies are on Georgia's schedule this year, so you may wonder why it is on the list. This game has been played during rivalry week for the past two seasons, and both games directly impacted who advanced to the SEC Championship game.
With both teams going into 2026 ranked in the top 10, this season could make it three straight years the game is a deciding factor of who goes to Atlanta. It would not be surprising at all if by week 13 the winner of this game would play Georgia for the SEC title, or Georgia may need one team to lose to advance to Atlanta just like they needed last year.
