Georgia will play South Carolina this season after a two-year hiatus. College football analysts have already predicted that Georgia could suffer an upset loss to the Gamecocks this season, but their upset bid just became a lot less intimidating after two season-ending South Carolina injuries.
South Carolina announces WRs Jayden Sellers and Jayden Gibson are both out for the year. Each endured season-ending, lower body injuries this week in practice.

Wide receivers Jayden Sellers and Jayden Gibson both suffered recent injuries deemed to be season-ending. Both players figured to be contributors to the Gamecocks wide receiver room this season, so they now have to find a way to replace them while also hoping no more injuries will occur to their receiver room this year.
South Carolina’s chance to upset Georgia just became less likely
Any injury will hurt a team, but season-ending injuries can significantly impact a team throughout the season. When two season-ending injuries happen at the same position though is when things can get extra challenging for a team, and that’s where South Carolina now finds themselves.
Both Sellers and Gibson are coming off solid years the last time they played. Last year Sellers grabbed 22 passes for 337 yards and a touchdown as a freshman. Gibson on the other hand hasn’t played since the 2023 season, but he scored five touchdowns that year.
Both players had the potential to make a lot of noise for South Carolina this year which includes when they play Georgia in the second to last game of the season. They however won’t be playing in that game anymore which could put South Carolina in a tough spot.
The Gamecocks now have significantly less depth in their wide receiver room. If another injury were to occur between now and their game against Georgia in week 12 then their depth could be in serious trouble against what looks to be a stellar Georgia secondary. This lack of depth will hinder their chances of pulling off the upset against Georgia, so the Bulldogs should like their chances just a little bit more in this game now.
Georgia’s potential for an upset loss in 2026 still exists
An upset loss to South Carolina is still possible this season, especially considering this is a road game for Georgia. There are a few other games UGA should be mindful of too where they could trip up.
Georgia’s three toughest games this season on paper are Alabama, Ole Miss and Oklahoma. A loss in any of those games wouldn’t be that much of an upset though, but a loss to a team like Florida or Auburn would.
Both Florida and Auburn are breaking in new coaches this season, and one of the best ways to get their tenures started in the right direction would be to coach their team to a victory over Georgia. The Bulldogs will be expected to win both games, but crazy things happen in rivalry games every year.
Then there is Georgia’s homecoming matchup against Vanderbilt. The Commodores have been a much better program the last two years, and they’re hoping to keep that trend alive with true freshman quarterback Jared Curtis who they infamously flipped from Georgia at the end of the recruiting cycle last year. If Curtis is named their starting quarterback he would obviously love to beat Georgia in Athens in what would be the second SEC start of his career. That’s a tall task even for a five-star quarterback, but it’s possible.
The Gamecocks however were being viewed by the media as one of the teams most likely to shock Georgia this year. These injuries don’t eliminate the chance of an upset occurring, but it does seem less likely now.
