Georgia defensive back Kyron Jones suffered a nasty foot injury midway through the 2025 season, but after the Bulldogs' first fall scrimmage he reportedly is back and making a strong push for why he should get his starting spot back.

Jones only played in the Bulldogs' first six games of the 2025 season before injuring his foot. He started all six of those games, but his injury kept him sidelined for the rest of the year and throughout the offseason too. Jones however is no longer on the sideline as he is reportedly back from his injury and already making a push to start at safety again this season.

Georgia DB Kyron Jones shines in Bulldogs' first fall scrimmage

Georgia's defense won the Bulldogs' scrimmage last weekend, and a big reason for that was due to Jones' play. He started at safety alongside KJ Bolden, and they controlled the Georgia passing game for much of the afternoon.

Jones specifically shined throughout the scrimmage. He began the scrimmage with a massive hit that sent a helmet flying within the first few plays while also recording another big hit later in the day. He also helped Georgia's secondary wreak havoc and force multiple drops and poor play from the Bulldogs' wide receivers.

Georgia fans may have preferred to see the offense play a bit better, but Jones return to the secondary appears to be coming just in time. Kirby Smart spoke at the start of fall camp and revealed that Jones was still recovering from this injury and limiting his practice reps, and while that still may be the case Jones is showing that he likely will be ready to play when the Bulldogs' season begins in two and a half weeks.

Kyron Jones' return could take Georgia's secondary to another level

Jones is entering his fourth season at Georgia, and with his help this year could be the best secondary the Bulldogs' have had during his career.

Alongside Jones in their starting secondary is corner Ellis Robinson and fellow safety KJ Bolden. Both Robinson and Bolden are expected to be first round draft picks in next year's NFL Draft, so that already is a surplus of talent in their secondary. Jones isn't being predicted to be a first round pick next year mainly because of his injury, but if he has a healthy year there's a chance he could make his way into the category as well.

Regardless of if he becomes a high draft pick or not, Jones return could make Georgia's defense significantly better. That is extremely important because throughout camp the offense has been struggling, so the defense may have to carry the team at times this season. That shouldn't be a problem though because Georgia won a national championship in 2021 and 2022 largely due to their dominant defense.

Jones still has some work to do before he is 100 percent healthy, but he is trending that direction and it looks like he could be the Bulldogs' starting safety alongside KJ Bolden for their week one game against Tennessee State.
