Georgia football starting safety Kyron Jones is still battling a foot injury he suffered during the 2025 season. He started in Georgia's first six games of last season, but he picked up a foot injury ahead of their regular season meeting against Ole Miss and was never able to return last year.
Jones did not participate at all during spring practices this offseason. The hope was that he'd be back to full health by fall camp, and according to Kirby Smart he is healthy. Georgia is still being cautious with Jones though as he isn't getting his full number of reps during fall camp and isn't able to participate in every drill either.
"It's not that he's (Jones) not 100% healthy, but he's not taking 100% of a normal practice day's reps,” Smart said via ugawire.usatoday.com. “We're trying to build him up more conditioning-wise and see how he feels. It's a very sensitive injury, so it's tough to monitor. He's done a lot of rehab, so it's been frustrating for him because when the team does a lot of conditioning, he can't do it. "
Georgia safety Kyron Jones still battling foot injury that ended his 2025 season
Georgia never gave a clear timeline when Jones was originally injured last season. They also didn't share any specifics about his injury either, but his foot injury ultimately ended his 2025 season after playing in just six games.
To this day Georgia has never confirmed what specific injury he suffered. They also never shared if this injury occurred in the final game he played in last year (Auburn) or if it happened in practice after that game, but whatever occurred is clearly still impacting him today.
The good news for Georgia is that he appears to be close to 100 percent health. The bad news though is that if this injury is still bothering him this much nearly 10 months later then it could be something that lingers throughout this season too.
Georgia's defense could be elite with a healthy Kyron Jones
Jones could be one of the pieces on Georgia's defense that makes them one of the best defenses in the country this season. That formula is what led to Georgia's two national championships under Kirby Smart, and early signs at fall camp are showing this group could be solid this year.
During Sunday's practice Georgia's offense reportedly struggled to move the ball against the defense. This however had more to do with Georgia's defense playing well, specifically in the secondary.
With this update on Jones' health it's unclear if he was playing during this part of practice or not. Either he was and is able to be effective on the field with this injury or Georgia's defense was playing at a high level without him. Georgia would prefer the first option, but either way it is encouraging to see Georgia's defense have a good practice.
Georgia's first official injury report will come out a few days before their first game and Jones will be a name everyone should watch for. The Bulldogs' defense is playing well to start fall camp, but if Jones can get healthy he should be able to take their defense to another level.
