Georgia football is off and running in their 2025 SEC season as they took down the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers in overtime 44-41.

It may not have been pretty, but in the SEC it doesn't have to be. All that matters is the final score, and on this night the scoreboard showed Georgia that ended with more points than the Volunteers.

So what did Georgia fans learn about their team in Knoxville on Saturday night? The answer to that is quite a lot, but here are the three things that stand out the most.

1. Gunner Stockton is good enough

Ever since Gunner Stockton took over in the SEC Championship game against Texas last season, all he has heard is how he isn't good enough. All anyone outside of Athens says is that Stockton is a decent quarterback but he won't be able to live up to the standard required at Georgia.

That is no longer the case.

Stockton just had his first road start of his career in one of the toughest environments in the country, and he lit up the Tennessee defense all night long. Stockton finished the night completing 23 of 31 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball for 38 yards and another touchdown as well.

But the thing that matters most is that he led Georgia to victory when many college football fans said he couldn't do it. So Stockton likely won't have to hear the naysayers disrespect him anymore, because he proved against Tennessee that he is good enough.
