4 Georgia Bulldogs receive major national honors
Georgia football is as hot as they've been all season. The Bulldogs are hitting their stride this season and have now won four straight games after defeating Florida 34-20 on Saturday.
The rest of the country is beginning to take notice at how great Georgia has been recently, especially when it comes to some of the outstanding performances by some key Bulldogs.
On Monday, four different Bulldogs received praise nationally, which goes to show just how electric UGA has been on the field recently.
Jalon Walker - Butkus Award Semifinalist
First up is linebacker Jalon Walker, who was named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award. At the end of the season, the Butkus Award goes to the best linebacker in the country, and so far Walker is still in the running for it.
So far this season, Walker has accumulated 35 tackles and 4.5 sacks. This includes his outrageous performance against Texas where he totaled eight tackles and three sacks. That is the first time in over 20 years anyone has done that against the No. 1 team in the country.
Walker may not be the favorite to win this award right now, but with a strong finish to the season he can definitely work his way into the conversation.
Chaz Chambliss - SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Next up is senior linebacker Chaz Chambliss, who had a monster performance against Florida on Saturday. Chambliss racked up six tackles against the Gators which included two sacks.
As you can tell, the linebacker room for Georgia is extremely deep. They are one of the biggest reasons why the Georgia defense has been playing so much better recently, and Chambliss specifically is a big reason why UGA excelled against Florida.
KJ Bolden and Nate Frazier - Top 10 True Freshman of the Week
Lastly we have two true freshman who made On3's top 10 true freshman of the week list.
The first is defensive back KJ Bolden, who was all over the field against the Gators. Bolden recorded five tackles which included three solo tackles. His lockdown defense is a big reason why Florida struggled offensively, especially once DJ Lagway left the game.
Running back Nate Frazier was also included in On3's top 10 true freshman of the week. Frazier stepped up in a big way when Trevor Etienne went down with an injury as he tallied 82 yards on 19 carries. Frazier also found the endzone early in the second half to tie the game at 13. Without this solid game from Frazier, it's possible that Georgia would have lost this game.
