Heading into the home stretch of the transfer portal window being open, Kirby Smart has a chance to add to an already stellar portal class. As of Wednesday afternoon, Georgia has seven players coming in from all over the country. Former Georgia Tech wide receiver Isiah Canion and former Auburn edge rusher Amaris Williams headline this class as the two four-stars. Could Georgia be adding to this list?
While the Dawgs do have seven players coming in, they also have 13 outgoing transfers. Eight of them have already committed elsewhere. Although there is a chance any of them five names still in the portal could come back to Athens, that is not incredibly likely. In short, Georgia is currently at a transfer portal deficit, certainly at minus-1 and effectively at minus-7. There are also draft entrants.
So what we are going to do today is to look at some of the best names still in the transfer portal and see if there are any other fits out there to be had for UGA. Not all of these guys will Commit to the G. To be quite frank, there is a very real possibility that none of them do... That being said, it is hard to imagine Georgia being done with its portal class with two more days left to put in the work to build it.
Let's start with a wide receiver who Georgia may need to target to avoid him going to a rival program.
4. Syracuse Orange wide receiver Darrell Gill Jr.
This one is a shot in the dark, but listen to this. Darrell Gill Jr. is the highest ranked wide receiver still in the portal and a top-10 player still left in the portal all together. While he has been crystal balled to go from Syracuse to Ole Miss over on 247Sports, we do realize who the head coach is at Syracuse now... That would be one of Kirby Smart's former proteges in Fran Brown. Maybe Georgia has a real chance?
Truth be told, at this stage of the game, once a player is crystal balled to another team, it seems like it is well on its way toward happening. Ole Miss needs to revamp its offense in the wake of Lane Kiffin going to LSU and Trinidad Chambliss now out of eligibility. In a way, there is more certainty with things at Georgia. We know that it will be Gunner Stockton playing quarterback for Mike Bobo next season...
Georgia needs at least one more wide receiver in the portal to pair with Isiah Canion at this juncture.
3-2. Florida State Seminoles edge rushers Darryll and Mandrell Desir
After missing out on Montgomery natives James Smith and Qua Russaw in the transfer portal to Ohio State, maybe the Dawgs can land a pair of identical twins in the portal? Darryll and Mandrell Desir are still in the portal after leaving Florida State. They are both four-star recruits out of Miami with only one year's worth of collegiate experience under their respective belts. Georgia could use more up front...
Although Athens is not as close to Tallahassee as Miami is, Kirby Smart can use this to one thing to his advantage in the transfer portal. It already has two pairs of brothers on next year's team. In fact, 31 players on the 2026-27 Bulldogs have a former high school teammate of theirs on the roster. The concept of brotherhood and togetherness could play very well into what the Desir twins want to do.
Besides, Georgia is one of the few places in the country where making the playoff is an expectation.
1. Colorado Buffaloes offensive tackle Jordan Seaton
It goes without saying, but Dawg Nation better hope it is in the mix for former Colorado Buffaloes offensive tackle Jordan Seaton. He is the best player still available in the transfer portal. While Georgia may not be the favorite to get him, he would be the ideal replacement for Monroe Freeling out at left tackle. Of course, other programs such as Miami and Texas A&M could be all about him...
At this point of his college career, Seaton should only transfer to teams he believe are effectively shoo-ins to make the College Football Playoff. Of the 12 teams who made it this past season, is there a surer bet to make it in again than Georgia? Maybe Ohio State, who also should be in on him as well. Regardless, only heavy-hitters should be vying for Seaton. He costs $2.5 million. Will UGA pony up?
Just because he is a big target for Georgia does not guarantee Seaton will come play for the Dawgs.
