Former Georgia football quarterback and future NFL Hall of Famer Matthew Stafford will likely play for a new team next season.
Stafford has spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams where he won a Super Bowl in his first season with the organization. The Rams had a minor setback the following season, but they made the playoffs each of the last two seasons. This shows that Stafford still has a lot to offer any NFL team as he enters his 17th season in the league, but it appears that will not be with the Rams next year.
A few days ago, word came out that the Rams gave Stafford's camp permission to look for a destination that he could be traded to. So even though he still has two years left on his deal with the Rams, this implies that the Rams are ready to move on from Stafford.
And to likely no one's surprise, there are already a handful of teams that are ready to deal with the Rams to get Stafford on their team.
4 teams showing interest in trading for Matthew Stafford
According to Albert Breer, the New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns have shown interest in trading for Stafford.
It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out. There is always a chance that the Rams could decide to keep Stafford instead of trading him, but the Rams owe him a lot of money and that appears to be a major turn off for them. It is however nice to see that four teams are willing to pay Stafford the remainder of his contract, but they first will have to come to terms with the Rams on how to get this trade taken care of.
Regardless of where Stafford ends up, there is a good chance that he will be successful with that organization. The hope for Georgia fans is that the team who gets Stafford will be setup for success so he can make at least one more run at his second Super Bowl.
