4-star Georgia legacy spurns Kirby Smart and commits to Tennessee

While Kirby Smart has been on a hot streak when it comes to recruiting in the month of June, he is able to win every single recruiting battle he is in. Most recently, Smart and Georgia lost to Josh Heupel and Tennessee for 4-star EDGE rusher Kedric Golston II, who is the son of former Georgia defensive tackle Kedric Golston.

The younger Golston just announced his commitment to the Tennessee Volunteers, as reported by On3's Hayes Fawcett. Golston is a 4-star EDGE rusher who is ranked the No. 452 player nationally, the No. 44 EDGE in the Class of 2026, and the No. 11 player in the state of Virginia. Golston chose Tennessee over the Bulldogs, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers. Georgia was the only one of those schools for which Golston did not have an official visit.

Georgia did have a Kedric Golston once playing for them from 2002 to 2005, and while he was a solid player in the field, he did have some issues off the field that earned him a game suspension and made restitution for the money they received from selling his 2002 SEC Championship ring. So while the younger Golston was certainly a legacy at Georgia, he may have wanted to make a name for himself outside of his father's shadow.

Kedric Golston II is not the first prospect to pass on Georgia

Losing Kedric Golston II to Tennessee hurts for Georgia, but he isn't the first prospect that the Bulldogs have lost out on in this recruiting cycle. Smart and the Bulldogs lost out on offensive lineman Desmond Green to the Florida Gators, which was a tough blow for Georgia.

When it comes to recruiting, this is how the cycle goes: you win some and you lose some, and after a tough loss yesterday, Georgia unfortunately was dealt another loss today with Golston. However, there could be another win around he corner for Georgia very soon.
