George Lamons has quickly become a very intriguing target for Georgia football. The four-star tight end was committed to an SEC rival for a few months, but a recent decommitment could spark Georgia’s ongoing recruitment of Lamons going forward.

Georgia’s next target is a recent 4-star SEC decommit
Lamons is a talented tight end in the 2027 recruiting class who is also being recruited as a wide receiver. He is from the state of Georgia, but back in April he announced his commitment to Texas A&M. That commitment however has not stuck as Lamons announced on Monday that he has officially decommitted from the Aggies.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Lamons is the No. 77 overall player in the counter. He also is the No. 4 tight end in the 2027 class and the No. 10 player from the Peach State.
Even though Lamons had been committed to Texas A&M for a few months, that never stopped Georgia’s pursuit of him. In fact, a report from Rivals was published at the beginning of July detailing how aggressive UGA still was in their pursuit. So based off this fact alone, it’s likely that Georgia is a big reason why Lamons is no longer committed to the Aggies.
Lamons hasn’t shared what schools he is interested in since decommitting from A&M, but it seem close to a guarantee that Georgia will be a top contender going forward in his recruitment. It will be interesting to see if Lamons wants to commit for a second time early in his recruitment or if he wants to let things play out a little more, but regardless Georgia should expect to be a major factor no matter what.
The Bulldogs currently have two players committed to their 2027 class which ranks No. 10 in the country, and a commitment from Lamons would be extremely helpful in UGA’s pursuit of signing one of the top 2027 classes in the country.
