A few months ago Donte Wright decommitted from Georgia. This was a huge blow to Georgia's 2027 recruiting class because he was a five-star commit at the time, but he decided that UGA wasn't the place for him so he made the move to Miami instead.
Wright is till a five-star to this day and has even continued climbing the recruiting rankings. In fact, he is now the No. 1 corner in the entire country which makes losing his commitment that much worse for Georgia.

His flip from Georgia to Miami is proving to be one of the biggest recruiting wins of the cyclehttps://t.co/gy8LP51QtX https://t.co/tNPIWI3JLv pic.twitter.com/95OZJ49E5m
Donte Wright's meteoric rise just keeps getting worse for Georgia
When Wright committed to Georgia in 2025 he was a pretty average recruit. He was a middle of the pack four-star that had a lot of upside, but he was yet to truly explode onto the national scene.
That however changed throughout 2025 and into the beginning of 2026 as he kept climbing up the class rankings. He eventually earned his fifth star while he was still committed to Georgia, but soon after he turned his back on the program and made the move to Miami.
Wright has shut his recruitment down since committing to Miami, so there is no hope for Georgia to get him back in their class. So all they can do is sit on the sideline and watch him continue his meteoric rise up the recruiting rankings which has brought him all the way to No. 1 at his position.
There's a world where Georgia could be the school celebrating his rise, but instead they have to sit and wonder how good it would feel to have him in their recruiting class right now.
Georgia could really use Donte Wright back in their recruiting class
Georgia desperately needs a player like Wright in their recruiting class. It goes without saying how big it would be for any program to have the No. 1 corner in the country committed to them, but for Georgia that is especially the case.
As it stands today Georgia does not have any defensive backs committed to their recruiting class. That's right, they do not have any safeties or corners in their recruiting class, but Wright could've changed that for Georgia in a big way.
Instead he flipped to Miami (which seems like a common thing to do the last few years) and the rest is history.
Georgia shouldn't panic about any one loss on the recruiting trail. Even if it's someone as talented as Wright they still shouldn't worry too much because Kirby Smart has always been able to find more players to replace anyone they lose. But so far he hasn't been able to do that, and that is a big problem.
As long as Georgia has zero defensive backs committed to their recruiting class fans should be a little nervous. Smart will eventually add some players, but with every passing day there will be less and less talent available.
That is a scary realization, but it's even worse because Georgia could have the No. 1 corner in the country in their class which would make them not have to worry at all.
