Georgia just missed on one of their top targets in the 2027 recruiting class on Monday. Five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs is from the state of Georgia, a legacy recruit for UGA, and the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 class who chose to commit to Ohio State over the Bulldogs and a few other schools.
This is a really big loss for Georgia because he is a legacy recruit who is an in-state prospect. Sure it isn't the end of the world losing this recruitment, but it is a tough one to overcome.
However, the biggest reason this loss will be tough to move past is because it seems like Georgia wasn't even close to winning this recruitment.
2027 5-star commits to Ohio State then says this in the interview. Just call me when he signs next December & let me know who he picked. https://t.co/MjQigykDfP pic.twitter.com/LnScXwFIDw

5-star DJ Jacobs nearly forgets Georgia exists
The above post shares a few quotes from Jacobs that he made after committing to Ohio State. He shared that he still plans on taking official visits next year to other schools and that "recruiting is never over." Both of these statements should give Georgia a little hope that they can flip him from the Buckeyes, but Georgia appears to be an afterthought to him in these quotes.
Jacobs mentioned a few other schools that he still has interest in, and Georgia was one of those schools. But he failed to mention Georgia until the end of each quote and it seemed as if he felt like he had to mention them even though he isn't that interested. He was very quick to mention schools like Miami and Texas A&M, but Georgia wasn't mentioned in the same breath as them.
This is a recruitment that Georgia fans should not hold out hope for. Sure there is always a chance they could win, but these quotes from Jacobs make it pretty clear that UGA doesn't stand much of a chance at flipping him away from Ohio State.
